?? New studies indicate SBTi will still exclude offsets for Scope 3 emissions
On July 30, the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) released two reports in anticipation of its 2025 update to the Corporate Net-Zero Standard. Although the documents do not provide specific statements or draft proposals for next year’s update, they signal two likely outcomes regarding carbon credits: SBTi staff are unlikely to include carbon offsetting in the Net-Zero Standard update next year, and SBTi aims to strengthen incentives to mitigate ongoing, unabated emissions, potentially through carbon credit retirement. ?? Italy faces hottest weekend of the year so far as temperatures set to exceed 40C
A weather system that has moved up from Africa is causing prolonged extreme heat across Italy that will peak this weekend. Temperatures are likely to exceed 40C in southern Italy as this weekend is forecast to be the hottest the country has seen so far this year. Peaks of up to 43C are expected with the southern mainland, as well as the two major islands Sardinia and Sicily the worst affected regions. Read more

Starbucks has partnered with sustainable packaging company Huhtamaki to develop compostable cups for cold drinks to reduce plastic waste in the US Globally, 141 million tonnes of plastic packaging waste is produced a year, totalling around 40% of all plastic waste.?This move by Starbucks, along with their ongoing efforts to reduce plastic use and promote reusability, highlights the growing importance of sustainability in the food service industry.
