???EU to propose exit from Energy Charter Treaty over climate concerns
The European Commission is readying a proposal for EU countries to jointly quit an international energy treaty. The 1998 #EnergyCharterTreaty, which has around 50 signatories including #EU countries, lets energy companies sue governments on policies that damage their investments. But in recent years it has been used to challenge policies that require fossil fuel plants to shut, raising concerns in some European capitals that it is an obstacle to addressing climate change. ?? EU auditors see 2030 climate and energy targets at risk
The EU auditors state that reporting on the climate and energy performance of the EU and its member states lacks transparency, which makes it difficult to learn lessons. While the EU performs well by global comparison in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, it does not account for all its emissions caused by trade, international aviation and shipping. Read more

Marks and Spencer?has replaced the ‘Use By’ dates with ‘Best Before’ alternatives in a bid to halve food waste by 2030 and reach net zero by 2040.
