???18 EU member states could miss reuse, recycling and landfill targets

In a report published this week, the European Commission identified Member States at?risk of not meeting the 2025 preparing for re-use and #recycling targets for?municipal and all packaging waste?and the?2035 landfilling target.?Nine Member States?are?on track to meet the 2025 targets. Read more

????France bans short-haul flights to cut carbon emissions

France has banned domestic short-haul flights where train alternatives exist, in a bid to cut #CarbonEmissions. The law came into force two years after lawmakers had voted to end routes where the same journey could be made by train in under two-and-a-half hours.?Read more

???What the EU’s new border tax could mean for carbon markets

The European Union ’s new Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism #CBAM aims to level the playing field for carbon-intensive goods imported into EU member states. The introduction of the policy is to be gradual, aligning with the gradual phase-out of free allocations to pollute with CO2 under the Emissions Trading System?#ETS. Currently, 40% of the allowances in the ETS are given out free.?As these free allowances are gradually taken away, EU companies could be at a competitive disadvantage if they were paying for pollution but their competitors outside the EU were not. With the aim of recovering end-of-life tyres #ELTs to create new high-quality materials for application in the construction industry, AIMPLAS · Instituto Tecnológico del Plástico is working on the?RECICAUTXU?Project, which focuses on developing industrial processes to obtain a new generation of composite materials.
