Sustainability measures we’re passionate about, this World Earth Day

As the climate crisis becomes ever more serious, so does Earth Day?(22nd April 2023), an annual event that brings together millions of people from around the world and is designed to shine a light on the serious environmental problems we’re facing, from the climate crisis to air pollution and deforestation.

Here at Rokit we’re focused on not only creating great-tasting coffee but also making sure we’re doing a great job for the environment and playing our part by being as eco-friendly as possible. Our coffee pods and our range of canned ready-to-drink coffees are made using 100% recyclable aluminium, ensuring we can provide the freshest taste with increased recyclability options for our customers. As well as using 100% recyclable aluminium across our products, we’re also signed up to coffee pod recycling scheme Podback. It’s a nationwide, not-for-profit coffee pod recycling service, allowing people to return used coffee pods to be recycled via kerbside pick-ups and drop-offs at participating Collect+ locations, as well as working with some local authorities to provide Podback recycling containers at Household Waste Recycling Centres. It’s the first service of its kind in the UK and makes recycling coffee pods as easy as it is to make a pod coffee.?

?

We’ve also recently been able to begin manufacturing our coffee pods in the UK which not only helps support the local economy but all-importantly helps to keep our food miles to a minimum and in turn our customer’s own personal carbon footprints.

For Earth Day 2023, we are being asked to “Invest in Our Planet”, with a focus on ending plastic pollution, planting trees, committing to sustainable fashion choices, and cleaning up our communities. So, what else can we do? Making sustainable purchasing decisions is one simple place to start and it’s up to retailers to make sure that the brands leading the way in sustainability are easily available on shelf for shoppers.?

?

Consumers are placing increasing emphasis on sustainability as a value guiding their purchasing choices, with Mintel reporting that four in five food and drink shoppers intentionally choose products with a sustainability claim. The drive to make food and drink production more sustainable has resulted in investment and innovation across the industry, which has had hugely positive ramifications.

?

When sustainability initially started becoming a purchasing factor for consumers it was often premium brands that were leading the charge but in today’s market you can’t walk down a supermarket aisle without a raft of products making environmental claims. With the increase in consumers putting planet-friendly choices first, many food and beverage brands are making genuine strides to becoming more environmentally friendly, but it has undoubtedly led to issues around greenwashing. This in turn has seen consumers becoming pretty knowledgeable on sustainability and packaging, and scrutinizing the products they buy for genuine sustainability markers.

?

Here at Rokit we’re proud to shout about the measures we take when it comes to doing our bit for the environment and have the credentials to match! We’re asking shoppers to be aware of this and make considered choices when shopping this #WorldEarthDay, and beyond.?
