Sustainability not just a trend in Vietnam

Working on sustainability in Vietnam for several years had been one of the decisive steps on my personal career, founding MQL Sustainable Tourism Services aiming to grow leaders and support the tourism industry grow well aligned to our initial principles set up.
Observing a growing compromise by both individual and corporate segments: both are concern on how to make a better Vietnam during its travel stages, during its working period and pleasure times.
Agree on the approaches of colleagues Dr Ha Van Sieu from Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, the valuable input of partner Kenneth Wood from Swiss Sustainable Tourism Program, the data from colleague Do Quang Huy from Swiss State Secretariat of Economic Affairs and also friend and regular co-worker Varun Grover from Booking.com: Vietnam showing a different improved pattern (see link below to read all their respective comments).
The involvement on natural resources care and preservation, on leaving just footprints at our Vietnamese destinations after every travel, the involvement into the local communities on both consumption products and services, the care on human resources and manpower are just some of the impactful observations detected.
More and more, travelers require a real sustainable approach above “past greenwashing” for hotels and accommodation suppliers, a better green practices on board of cruises, planes and transportation suppliers, plus a proper evaluation and control from travel agents, online searching engines and trip consultants.
Learning from some of us tourism experts based in Vietnam for nearly 25 years, showing now results in both private and public sector: mistakes made in other global leading destinations are helping Vietnam to learn fast applying protocols and actions. But despite all efforts, challenges ahead keep pushing our efforts and we are far from complacent at all.
Proper waste management is still behind standards, education improvement and its link to a “hungry industry” is still pending, plus application of circular economy in all sectors or the reduction of harmful construction developments in areas like Nha Trang - Cam Ranh, Phu Quoc or Sa Pa are a real major point.
