Sustainability is a data problem

Between the narrative and the outcome, we need real actionable solutions. We need to go towards a net zero society. There is no time to waste.

At COP26 I was invited by Wood and Mckinsey & Company to attend their programs. At the dinner hosted by Mckinsey global CEO, Bob Sternfels, I had the honour to dine with Al Gore.

Bob Sternfels and Mckinsey are make a leap towards a net zero future

We talked about the critical lack of diverse data in many key areas like land use, natural habitats and species conservation. We lack efficient tools to measure, reduce, replace and remove carbon emissions.?

Ending COP26 the 1.5-degree Celsius goal is barely alive. Many countries stepped up and significantly raised their climate ambition while committing to bold climate action. But the picture coming out of COP26 is an imperfect one. The world is still far short of where it needs to be to stem the impacts of climate change.

Not enough has been done at COP26 to reduce emissions consistent with avoiding dangerous climate change in decades to come. Genuine urgency and a willingness to match words with action and to close the yawning gap between pledges and detailed, short-term plans is still missing.

Climate change is causing severe devastation and we know that unprecedented action needs to be taken this decade to avoid the most disastrous impacts. The 2030 national emission reduction targets governments have submitted put us on a highly dangerous trajectory towards warming of 2.4 degrees by the end of the century.

COP 26 passed rules to establish a global carbon market and to facilitate bilateral carbon trading. A compromise was agreed between nations looking for a robust market that avoided any risk of emissions double-counting, and others looking to use older carbon credits from the Kyoto Protocol. The decision calls for coherence between international legal instruments, while allowing space for different approaches. The decision also calls on nations to work in partnership with civil society, local authorities and business organisations.

The world needs real solutions that can scale to tackle this.

At Energi.AI we make fully automated carbon accounts based on machine learning. With a massive amount of data we can fully automate the reporting on Scope 1 and 2 of the Greenhouse protocol.

We can automate up to 60% of the GHG scope 3. Adding LCA and Environmental Product Declaration data we will reach a 100% autonomous carbon account. This is our unfair advantage. We will tap into the voluntary carbon credit market which is estimated to have a value of 50 billion USD$ (source McKinsey).?

Hanne Ek (Co-founder & CFO) and I are preparing for the Mckinsey event

I was born an optimist. I am still an optimist leaving COP26. I am certain we will make it. But we need to make it on time. We have all the technology we need. We have all the resources. And all the competency.? I am in particular optimist after the talks with the top executives of the large companies in the world.??

Our goal is to solve the big problems and generate environmental effects and create outsized financial returns. Everyone, who represents a profitable business, must take part in making a Net Zero future.?

About Energi.AI:

Energi.AI is a data driven platform - climate action made simple. AI and data is our unfair advantage. Companies lack the insight and the right tools to execute. We are launching fully automated carbon accounts for 62.000 Nordic companies in January 2022. Coming out of the Nordics, the Silicon Valley of the energy market, we will deploy this globally.

Thank you for your dedicated effoets Anders H. Lier ! I love this part ?Genuine urgency and a willingness to match words with action and to close the yawning gap between pledges and detailed, short-term plans is still missing.? That’s where my contribution comes in. Collaboration is key now.

Very well written, we agree! Data holds the capability to solve quite a few of the issues we have in sustainability today.
