?Electric Vehicle: Dutch electric-car maker Lightyear has started to build the 'Zero', a solar car can run “for months” without a plug-in charge. The Lightyear Zero – the world’s first road-ready solar-powered electric car – has entered production in Finland, ahead of European deliveries starting next year. Read more: https://bit.ly/3FHME6u
?Sustainable Energy: Net zero and energy security goals can often seem at odds: one focuses on reducing emissions through emerging power sources, the other looks at providing uninterrupted, affordable energy. But the two are inextricably linked – innovations in energy are enabling nations to both diversify energy sources to increase their energy security posture, while meeting net zero goals. ?Solar Power: Saudi Arabia is getting a new solar power plant. The Saudi energy company ACWA Power and the kingdom’s Public Investment Fund will develop and build a 2,060 megawatt solar photovoltaic plant in western Saudi Arabia. ACWA Power and the sovereign wealth fund each own a 50% stake in the project. The plant is expected to be operational by the fourth quarter of 2025, ACWA Power said in a press release. ?Sustainable Development: Applications for the Island Innovation Ambassador program, which runs from February 2023 to December 2023 and promotes sustainability and good governance within island communities, are now open. According to Island Innovation, applicants for the Ambassador Program can be any age but must have an island connection, and be passionate about island issues, innovation, and sustainable development. ?Sustainability Efforts: With the 2022 fall semester coming to an end, Miami University is just three years away from its goal of converting large academic buildings to utilize geothermal energy by 2026. Geothermal energy is only a part of Miami’s sustainability efforts, which have been in the works since 2008. Olivia Herron, Miami’s director of sustainability, helps oversee this project, and other aspects of Miami’s work to go green. Read more: https://bit.ly/3HAhFdU
?Sustainable Aviation Fuel: Ryanair, Europe’s largest airline and global energy group Shell, signed a Memo of Understanding (MOU) to advance the supply of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) at over 200 Ryanair airports across Europe, with a particular focus on SAF supply at RYR’s largest bases like Dublin and London Stansted. ?Sustainability Linked Loan: Majid Al Futtaim, a leading shopping mall and leisure pioneer in the Gulf region, has signed its second Sustainability-Linked Loan (SLL), structured as a $1.25 billion revolving credit facility (RCF) linked to the company’s environmental, social and governance (ESG) related targets. ?Water Positive: Invent 2022, Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced that it will be water positive by 2030, committing to return more water to communities than it uses in its direct operations, and also to report annually on its water use efficiency (WUE). To showcase its pledge to sustainability, AWS reported its 2021 WUE metric of 0.25 liters of water per kilowatt hour, demonstrating the company’s water-efficient operations. Reportedly, the company will also up its water reuse and recycling efforts, implement new measures to reduce water consumption in its facilities, and bolster new and existing replenishment projects. ?European Council: The European Council, which comprises the views of the EU Member State governments, adopted its negotiating position on the EU’s proposed Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD). The CSDDD would require large companies operating in the EU to undertake due diligence on their own activities and that of their suppliers, and to identify, mitigate, or avoid any actual or potential adverse impacts of their business operations. The CSDDD would also set out any penalties (including possible civil liability) in relation to the breach of such obligations. Read more: https://bit.ly/3Yp7yyS

In urban India, weddings have become integral to grandeur and opulence, which is now seeing a significant paradigm shift. In recent years, with a global push towards sustainability, we are starting to see a rise in eco-conscious millennial couples, eco-friendly wedding decor, and ideas to throw a sustainable luxury wedding. More millennials are looking for sustainable solutions when organizing their big day, from choosing eco-friendly locations to using digital invites for a small guest list and using local and seasonal items.
