?COP27: Delegates from nearly 200 countries kicked off the U.N. climate summit in Egypt on Sunday with an agreement to discuss compensating poor nations for mounting damage linked to global warming, placing the controversial topic on the agenda for the first time since climate talks began decades ago. ?Sustainable Finance: As a country with abundant natural and human resources, Nigeria has been identified as well positioned to embrace sustainable finance principles and attract investment for the continent’s much-needed growth and development. This was stated by the Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Mr Lamido Yuguda, during a lecture to mark the commemoration of the IOSCO World Investor Week with the theme Investor Resilience and Sustainable Finance, held in Abuja. ?COP27: South Africa and its investment partners launched an $8.5 billion plan to shift from coal toward green energy at the COP27 climate summit, a potentially landmark deal for the transition away from fossil fuels. The Just Energy Transition Plan - backed by the UK, US, France, Germany and the European Union - is seen as a blueprint for other coal-dependent developing nations to cut greenhouse gas emissions. ?Sustainable Business: Growing demands by shareholders and consumers for more responsible and sustainable business practices have already reshaped the corporate environmental, social, and governance (ESG) landscape, and consumers are more interested than ever in shopping sustainably, with 64% of Americans willing to pay more for sustainable products and 78% more likely to purchase a product that’s clearly labeled as environmentally friendly, according to data from GreenPrint. ?COP27: The OPEC Fund for International Development launches new climate action at the UN Climate Conference COP27 in Sharm El-Sheikh. The conference will see the unveiling of a multibillion-dollar financing package by the Arab Coordination Group (ACG), a group of 10 development finance institutions including the OPEC Fund, to address the global climate change. ?COP27: The first-ever Food Systems Pavilion to be featured at a UN Climate Change Conference represents an enormous opportunity to ensure that the health of the planet’s soil – and with it, all the nutritional, ecosystem, and climate benefits soil provides – is considered by policymakers in discussions at COP27, say soil experts. With over half of the globe’s agricultural soil already badly degraded, government leaders and legislators must take quick and significant actions to halt the destruction and kick-start restoration of soil ecosystems, said Leigh Ann Winowiecki, co-leader of the Coalition of Action 4 Soil Health (CA4SH), one of the host organizations of the Pavilion. The platform — launched as a partnership between OVG; Fenway Sports Group; the Atlanta Hawks and their home court, State Farm Arena — is a first-of-its-kind pathway to creating a semblance of uniformity in sustainability reporting across some of the US’s largest public gathering spaces. ?Business Strategy: During Dubai Dialogue 2022, industry experts discussed how businesses in the UAE and abroad are reaping big benefits from embedding sustainability into their supply chains. ?Sustainable Energy: Offshore wind turbine blades made in Hull have helped smash the record for daily wind-powered energy production in the UK. The National Grid has confirmed that wind produced over 20 gigawatts of electricity on Tuesday for the first time in UK history. ?Renewable Power: The US and the United Arab Emirates announced a renewable-energy pact they say could lead to $100 billion of investments globally. The so-called partnership for accelerating clean energy was signed in Abu Dhabi. ?COP27: President Joe Biden and other U.S. officials think they finally have a winning climate message to share with the world. After years of false starts and disappointments, Biden and congressional Democrats this summer passed into law a sprawling $370 billion package of investments and tax credits that promises to transform the U.S. economy and give the United States a plausible way to meet its 2030 climate pledges. “People see what the United States is doing, and it has spurred other countries on,” U.S. climate envoy John Kerry said.
