??Sustainable Logistics: Company decision-makers pursue various strategies to improve sustainability efforts. ?Solar Manufacturing: WASHINGTON, D.C.—The Biden-Harris Administration, through the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), announced a slate of new initiatives and $56 million in funding, including $10 million from President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, to spur innovation in solar manufacturing and recycling.Together, the funding will help make clean energy more affordable and reliable, create good-paying jobs, and enhance U.S. economic growth and competitiveness. ??Energy Production: Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) announced that the total production capacity of its energy has reached 14,117 megawatts (MW) after adding 700MW.This includes 600MW from the Hassyan Power Complex, which runs on natural gas, and 100 MW from photovoltaic (PV) solar panels at the 5th phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, which DEWA is implementing.It is the largest single-site solar park in the world using the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model, with a planned capacity of 5,000MW by 2030. ??Sustainable Future: About 50 Romanian companies of all sizes, along with several NGOs, have joined the Commitment to the Future, the first initiative aiming to convince local businesses to take specific steps toward building a more sustainable future.Initiated by the e-commerce platform eMAG and the Conservation Carpathia Foundation, the project sets measurable environmental objectives for companies of any size and in any sector of activity. ??Responsible Travel: Expedia Group released its annual Global Impact Report, outlining how the company continues to contribute to the creation of a more accessible, equitable, and sustainable travel industry for generations to come. This report outlines Expedia Group’s efforts to help travelers experience the world in new ways and build lasting connections while having a positive impact on their destinations. ?Sustainable Energy: Europe’s largest renewable energy generator Statkraft has issued a notice to proceed with the installation of additional floating solar units for the project in Albania, which also involves technology supplier Ocean Sun.The first unit with an installed capacity of 500kWp was put back into commercial operation in April 2022, after it was retrieved ashore due to damage caused by the stormy weather a year before.Now, the project developers will move ahead with the installation of an additional three rings, based on Ocean Sun’s technology, to bring the total floating solar installation to 2MWp. ?Energy Transition: Shell is one of the largest energy companies in the world. While many of us might associate it primarily with oil and gas, it has launched an ambitious energy transition agenda to move away from the use of fossil fuels towards green and sustainable energy.This includes a target to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 or earlier, as well as a more immediate target of reducing emissions by 50 percent by the end of this decade.To do this, it is taking advantage of a number of new technology trends that are proving themselves to be revolutionary in many industries beyond their own field. ??Sustainable Society: The world is changing at an increasingly rapid pace. This only reinforces the need to be prepared for future conditions. One possible solution is to future-proof buildings and cities. With more than two thirds of the world’s population projected to live in urban areas by 2050, now is the time to reconsider the role cities can play in the shift towards a more sustainable society. According to the National Public Utilities Council (via Visual Capitalist), 137 countries have committed to carbon neutrality, and over 90%—124 of the 137 countries—are set to achieve neutrality by 2050, and the others are not far behind. ??Net-zero Carbon: In 2021, HP announced a range of ambitious climate action targets, including a commitment to be net zero by 2040 — a full decade ahead of the Paris Agreement. ??Sustainable Fashion: The 2021 Material Change Insights (MCI) Report, a fashion sustainability report from the global non-profit Textile Exchange, shows that 50% of fashion companies are now using preferred materials with a lower environmental and/or social impact. These numbers are up from 44% the previous year, as businesses leverage circular economic principles. Preferred cotton now represents 65% of overall cotton used by participating brands, and recycled polyester increased to 32% of polyester use, compared to 21% the year before.
