Sustainability Bulletin - 05.09.2022

Dear Friends,

We have prepared a condensed bulletin for you based on news, articles, and developments that recently took place around the globe about Sustainability.

Here’s what happened last week in our Sustainable World;

?? Research for Solar-power: Solar-powered electronics are one step closer to becoming an everyday part of our lives thanks to a “radical” new scientific breakthrough. In 2017, scientists at a Swedish university created an energy system that makes it possible to capture and store solar energy for up to 18 years, releasing it as heat when needed. As detailed in a new study published in Cell Reports Physical Science last month, this model has now been taken a step further. The Swedish researchers sent their unique molecule, loaded with solar energy, to colleagues at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. There the energy was released and converted into electricity using the generator they had developed. The device could potentially replace batteries and solar cells, fine-tuning the way we use the sun’s abundant energy. Read more: https://ow.ly/tAIy50IXW7F

?? Ramp Up Rules: Countries around the world are introducing rules requiring companies to disclose information about their impact on society and the environment. This can involve anything from tracking greenhouse-gas emissions and plastic waste to reporting on diversity and social inclusion. As other governments add or firm up their rules, the Securities and Exchange Commission has proposed regulations requiring public companies to disclose extensive climate-related information. ?? IBM Global Consumer Study: More than half (51%) of respondents say environmental sustainability is more important to them today than it was 12 months ago, says a new IBM (NYSE: IBM) Institute for Business Value (IBV) study. They are demonstrating its importance through their purchases, household choices, investments, employment, and travel decisions. However, they need help from companies to make the most sustainable choices. Read more: https://ow.ly/T5Bb50J0cqs

?? Formed Fibre Offers: As packaging companies look to innovation as a means to hit their sustainability targets, Finland’s Stora Enso secured a high-profile arrangement with take-away salad bar company Picadeli earlier this year. The partnership has led to Picadeli's switch out of single-use plastics for Stora Enso’s ‘PureFiber’. The packaging option, sourced from wood-based formed fibre, is free from plastic as well as per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). Read more: https://ow.ly/eLym50J0fT7
