OK so I am going to say it here and now, I am officially DONE with this whole “sustainability” charade, particularly as it pertains to our industry – namely airline hospitality, although it's now rammed down our throats 24/7 in everything we do.
?The change for me didn’t happen overnight but has been an increasing and rising rage within me that knows this entire thing is a joke.
Actually, it’s not. It’s worse, a lot worse. But I’ll come to that further down….
?The straw which eventually broke this camel’s back happened in the Qatar Airways Business Lounge in Doha a few weeks ago.
This new lounge opened in their new Atrium area is a stunning affair. It was not busy and I seated myself in the restaurant area to grab a bite to eat.
The first thing I noticed … no menu.
Instead an infernal QR code which automatically raise my heckles. I loathe them. They are inconvenient. It means I have to fumble for my phone, then fumble for some app which won’t work as I am not connected to the wi-fi ?– this in turn means another app, passwords, and other inconvenience. Assuming I have reached this point, then I need my hi-strength reading specs to read the 0.5 size font.
As it happened, my phone did NOT work so the young server told me they have the menus on I-pads too. He fetched one. It didn’t work either.
“The wi-fi is sometimes a bit weak here” duh!
Finally someone showed up with two simple pieces of A4 laminated paper with the menu choices nicely printed.
I asked why no printed menus. “Oh – it’s for the environment” comes the asinine reply. I felt the need then to point out that:
“We're sitting in a cavernous area in a building where it’s 48c outside. Air conditioners are struggling to keep the temperature at a tolerable level consuming who knows how much power?”
“Furthermore, we are surrounded by airliners filled with A1 Jet fuel pumping out exhaust”.
“Furthermore, the I-pad which failed us earlier – how much carbon was used to manufacture that? How many sheets of paper (made from sustainable trees from Finland probably) could be produced? You think you can save the Earth by not printing a menu?”
I didn’t expect a reply but only hope he saw the ridiculousness of the situation.
The Numbers
So let’s look at “Carbon emissions” facts.
We are bombarded by the paid-for mainstream media that we emit too much carbon. Do ANY of these millennial Muppets know anything about carbon distribution and consumption on Earth?

?Carbon makes up just 0.04% of the air we breathe – to be exact about 416 parts per million (ppm) as of April 2021.
?Of that 0.0416% it is estimated, even by the so-called “experts” that human activity contributes around 3%.
Of that 3%, it is estimated Aviation accounts for 2.5% of global CO2 emissions – this from various sources including OurWorldInData. So, what we are talking about is 2.5% of 3% of 0.04%. It’s miniscule.
Let’s look at it in terms of a litre of milk. (Sorry America, get out your calculator).
If a litre of milk represents all the air in the world then the CO2 represents 4 millilitres. Our contribution to that 4ml is 0.012 of a ml and flying around the place contributes 2.5% of that. You couldn’t measure it with an eye dropper. You’d need a hypodermic needle.
You could ground ALL aircraft tomorrow and it would not make any difference at all to anything for a thousand years. You can calculate ALL the emissions produced by all aircraft since the Wright Brothers and it would not add up to Mount St Helens.
Remember in the 1970’s we were told The Ice Age Cometh, the oil was going to run out and we were all going to freeze to death in 10 years. Then in the 80’s it was all about “Acid Rain” and we were all going to be dissolved within 10 years. Then in the 90’s they started with that whole sea-level thing and we would all drown in 10 years. Then, when none of that came to pass, they started with the “global warming”. This has turned into media-driven hysteria when, as soon as the temperature hits +30 and the tarmac melts at Gatwick, the Prophets of Doom immediately begin their wailing and gnashing of teeth. As for the Just Stop Oil numpties in their oil-based Hi vis vests, words fail me….
No – there is altogether another reason that “Sustainability” has become the poster-child that’s used to brainwash a whole generation of unsuspecting consumers. Those of us who have survived long enough to remember are not so easily fooled.
It’s more to do with population control and tracking than anything environmentally based. The powers that be want to leverage digital tracking on every aspect of our lives and this is a perfect tool with which to scare the pants off everyone into blind compliance.
Before you know it, you will go to book a weekend to Prague and your card will be blocked with the message “You have exceeded your Carbon Credits Allowance for this year. You must stay home”. If you don’t believe me, it’s coming and the WEF are pushing for it. Unless we push back it will be foisted upon us before we know it. The litmus test were the “lockdowns” now accepted as completely useless but a great test of tolerance by those who would wish to keep you from travelling around.
So, I’m done with it. The second I hear that word “sustainability” used, I know there is an ulterior motive.
Here are the top 5 ways to get on with life:
1. Stop watching the news or Mainstream Media and ignore “experts” or “scientists” particularly if those two words are combined.
2. Use cash everywhere
3. Refuse to QR code anything. Remember the communication is 2 way. If you are receiving info from using the code you can guarantee they are taking information FROM you as well.
4. Fly more. Book a nice hotel. Book a car from the airport. See your friends, family, go somewhere because you want to. Aim for that Gold Card Status.
5. Enjoy life and stop worrying. There are a LOT of changes coming in 2024, but End Of The World climate change simply isn’t one of them.

1 年It's a breath of carbonated air to read this. They are really pushing the narrative of "save the planet" to ridiculous levels that defy any logic or common sense. While I do agree that we must protect our environment, the claims of the WEF and those large corporations are nonsensical. Recently I saw an ad for diapers for dogs, made with sustainable material, went to a huge dollar store selling plastic flowers and other stuff shipped from the other side of the world, and bought a plastic-wrapped banana at 7-eleven. Not sure why this is fine.

1 年Your logic in this matter is as unfounded and invalid as claiming that adding a pinch of black pepper to a dish has no bearing on its flavor or suggesting that a small amount of cyanide in a cup of tea is harmless. A percentage of carbon in the atmosphere alone does not provide the full insight into the impact of carbon on global warming. This misconception is a widely circulated and debunked narrative on social media.

Good article! I suspect many agree with it, but won't have the guts or ability, due to for whom they work, to like your post or to comment on it positively. At the same time, many in our industry support "sustainability," despite the fact that it will kill their travel-related jobs for the reasons that you enumerate. These people think that you're crazy, and dangerous, for writing this article. No matter how many facts that you post, they won't listen, because they're emotion is more real to them than facts, and more important to them than their livelihoods. They don't realize that their emotions are being manipulated by the same government "Nudge Units" that got them to agree to be locked up on house arrest during the pandemic and to boost up endlessly despite well documented, and now admitted by government, side effects like Myocarditis.
