Susan Says "Pay Attention"
For a long time, I worked as a photographer. People hired me to take photographs. People came to me for advice on cameras and retouching. For a long time, photography was a big part of my life. But to be honest, in all that time, I never once considered myself a photographer.
I never approached photography to “take” something. I didn’t take photographs, I created spaces to meditate in.?
Photography for me has always been a meditation. The camera is a tool that teaches you to see the world without a camera.?
I love the following quote by Susan. She says:
“Pay attention. It’s all about paying attention. It’s all about taking in as much of what’s out there as you can, and not letting the excuses and the dreariness of some of the obligations you’ll soon be incurring narrow your lives. Attention is vitality. It connects you with others. It makes you eager. Stay eager.”
The next time you take out your phone to take a picture, remember to meditate and pay attention. The point isn’t the picture you'll take. The point is the space that the act of photography creates within you and for others. It’s a valuable space to notice and create from.?
That's all for now. Optimize for kindness and go find some nice spaces.
