Topline Growth Is The Top Priority

The funding winter has forced Indian startups to adopt a lean approach, focus on profitability, and in some cases, extend their runways.

And with that, in our survey, we see a mentality shift in startup founders who want to focus on fundamentals and a wide customer base going headfirst into 2024.?

The Majority Loves IPOs

The macroeconomic headwinds and market downturns made 2023 a bumpy ride to be on, especially for startups who were navigating their way around.?

At the same time, the 14 Indian new-age stocks that were under Inc42’s coverage at the end of 2022 together gained $11.8 Bn in 2023. Their combined market capitalisation stood at $36.9 Bn at the end of 2023 as against $25.07 Bn a year ago.

Among these, two of the biggest gainers were Zomato and RateGain, whose shares jumped over 100% in a year.

No Success Without Teams

Given the layoff spree that started in the second half of 2022 and is continuing still, it is interesting to note the majority of startup founders want to hire and expand their teams in the upcoming financial year.?

Come April-May, and the white-collar workforce readies itself for the appraisal season. They recount every client win, every penny saved and every new skill/efficiency achieved so that the appraisal gods (read managers) will dole out salary hikes and performance incentives.?
