Surveillance of Staff in the Homes of UHNW Principals

I recently had a colleague query if I was aware of internal cameras at a Principals property. Truthfully, I had no concrete intel on whether the Principal does or does not have cameras installed.
Regardless of the facts, my recommendation remains the same: Always behave with professional conduct, and never do or say anything that could be professionally compromising within the workplace.
Whether that’s “in person”, in areas where you may be unknowingly recorded, via your work email where you think you may not be monitored or on your work WhatsApp where you feel the device is your own.
Wrong!
These are all areas where the Principal may be unknowingly monitoring you.
The Difference with Private Households
Working within someone’s home is ultimately their home. I’ve spent time in properties where audio recording devices were the norm, and secret cameras inevitable.
Working within Private Households is unlike any other work place, and this extends to a potential level of surveillance within the property and the work devices you are given to conduct your job.
Being a part of this industry means a level of acceptance around surveillance. Often it begins with official and unofficial background checks during the recruitment process, and monitoring may well continue on throughout your career.

Tips for Success
Always consider what you are writing about the Principal and in correspondence. Would you be happy if they so happened to read what you have said?
Never discuss the Principals personal affairs with anyone, whether you think you are sharing this confidentially with someone or not. Breaching confidentiality or an NDA could result in immediate termination.
Never forward or share sensitive information and correspondence to anyone outside the Principals staff, unless you are certain you are allowed to do so and it’s appropriate.
Boundaries on Devices
To minimise risk and liability with information, ensure you are given a dedicated work phone and laptop so the security of the devices and liability of sensitive information always remains the responsibility of the Principal.
Never use work devices to conduct your own personal business or communications.
Maintaining this level of professionalism is a vital part of good conduct.
Remember, the Ultra High Net Worth industry is very small. A dismissal for breaching a Principals privacy or speaking out of turn could destroy your entire career.
Have you been subject to surveillance whilst working within the homes of UHNW principals?

1 个月Surveillance is a fact of life—at work, on the street, at ATMs, or gas stations. If it bothers you at work, why not elsewhere? I once suspected cameras or audio in a conference room, so I tested it with a minor comment. Sure enough, it came up later, confirming my suspicion. What did I do? I adjusted. I stopped sharing sensitive opinions in monitored spaces. No drama, just adapting to reality. In short if you suspect they are present, don’t do anything stupid.
