We are only 5 weeks away from the biggest thing that has ever happened in the independent grocery sector in Australia and the biggest thing to happen in Drakes’ 45-year history.
And WE ARE PUMPED!
However, with all the excitement and hype surrounding the build of our Distribution Centre (DC) it has staggered me the amount of negativity that has come with it and the people hoping we fail, that we don’t succeed.
Why are there so many negative people in this world hoping others fail? Is this a case of the ‘Tall Poppy Syndrome’? Why can’t we all be positive and celebrate other people’s achievements?
Your attitudes and behaviours play a big part in whether or not you are successful in achieving your goals. The 3 keys things that I believe you need to do to ensure success and achieve your goals are:
- Surround yourself with the right people and ensure the right people are doing the right job.
- Focus on the goal and just do it – always keep in mind what the end goal is and work hard at it.
- Don’t settle for second best.
These combined together equal SUCCESS.
We have done this at Drakes. The DC project is huge, massive, ginormous! and we have only been able to complete it because we have done those 3 key things:
- We have surrounded ourselves with the right people! I can say with unwavering certainty that we have the right people doing the right job.
- It has been the sole goal and only focus of our DC Project team. There was no plan B.
- We have the best of the best. We haven’t settled for second best.
There are hundreds of people who have been working on the DC project in the background to make it all happen. From the WMS &, ERP systems, the automation piece, putting labels on racking, getting stock in and not to mention the IT infrastructure.
We have the right people, doing the right jobs and getting them done.
It is a very exciting time for us, with a new breed of talented people coming through the company and helping to progress and move Drakes forward.
If we listened to all the negative comments and took them on board, we wouldn’t be where we are today.
We believe in our team and they believe in us.

5 年I say this everyday...without the right people in the right roles with the right goals, the right positive attitude and with a burning desire to win and be the best...you will never be successful. There is no room for toxicity and negativity in a collaborative, driven, high performing culture.
