we recently we worked with artist D*Face to create these surreal cartoon benches, featuring a classic blue and pink retro rubber seat and Mickey Mouse style feet for a public sculpture commission.

This was a challenging fabrication using several different processes, from cad design, metal welding and tube bending, to poly sculpting, mold making, casting in both fibre glass resin and jesmonite.

A mild steel frame created a solid base for each leg to have a unique profile bend to create a distinctive walking stance. Each foot was hand carved and cast in fibre-glass, to be hard-wearing and resilient to knocks and bumps. The main rubber seat was formed from pigment dyed Jesmonite, providing a smooth surface that is both durable and tactile to touch.

We loved the final finish of these pieces, currently on display in the Art’otel, Shoreditch London.
