DTC Brands: This edition is dedicated to tackling a common challenge - what to do when your email list just isn’t growing fast enough?
After all, more subscribers mean more chances to drive sales - as simple as that.
It's also a chance to capture those visitors who leave your site without making a purchase (and that’s roughly 97% of them... ouch!)
Well, I’ve got a little trick for you…
And it’s already waiting for you—your site popups!
Brands often don’t utilize them properly. When we audit these brands, we find their popups performing way below the benchmark.
Anything less than 6% is no bueno…
And on average, brands we audit are stuck down at around 2% or 3%!
But there are a couple of low-hanging fruit that can help you double or even triple your popup conversion rate…
Split-test these three things and you’ll be on the road to a huge email list:
1. The Offer
Is your offer attractive enough for your leads to sign up? If not, consider a different % discount, free shipping, or a gift on their first purchase.
Discounts almost always convert better than any other offer, but the exact offer really depends on your audience & products and should be split-tested.
Another option is to use a quiz popup, so instead of the usual discount, the popup is positioned as helping the visitor either diagnose or solve their problem.

If done right, this kind of popup converts like crazy, and also provides you with Zero Party Data - information on where exactly your potential customer is, so you can tailor your offer accordingly - this is pure gold.
2. Creatives
Come up with more appealing and punchy copywriting. Try another eye-catching, conversion-focused graphic design.
Sometimes just changing the image will get you surprising results. Split-test against the current creatives.
3. Timing
Don’t annoy visitors with a popup that appears right as they enter the site. But don’t wait too long either, or they’ll be gone before you know it.
Pro tip: use Google Analytics to help you see how much time the average first-time visitor spends on your site.
That way, you know the ideal timing to trigger the popup.
These three things alone should help you bump up your popup conversion rate.
Let me know if it works out for you—I’d love to hear!
