Surprising Revelation: Nearly Half of Companies Lag in ESG Data Management, Still Depend on Spreadsheets

According to a KPMG survey, it has been found that nearly half of companies still rely on spreadsheets to manage their environmental, social, and governance (ESG) data. Despite claiming to be ahead of their peers in sustainability reporting, 47% of respondents reported using spreadsheets as their top ESG data management system. In comparison, only 38% reported using enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.

The survey highlights the continued reliance on manual data collection methods, indicating a potential gap in the adoption of more advanced ESG data management systems within organizations. Timely and accurate reporting of sustainability information is crucial for businesses to comply with regulatory reporting guidelines, emphasizing the need for improved data management practices in this context.
