Morning Routine
Are you someone who carefully crafts a morning routine, complete with exercise, meditation, and healthy eating, only to find that you're too exhausted to tackle work once you're done? If so, take heart. While a structured morning routine may seem like the key to productivity, it could be holding you back.
For years, I used to get up and go to the gym thinking it energised me, but I was actually getting increasingly frustrated and feeling guilty while working out, thinking of all the things I needed to do. I wanted to get on with it. Easy, you may say, don't go to the gym, but I was a slave to my routine. By the time I got back and started, half the day had gone, and by mid-afternoon, I was exhausted and needed a nap. Needless to say, I've changed my routine now and enjoy my exercise guilt-free and can take my time and wind down for the evening.
That said, if your current morning routine works well and keeps you productive, there's no need to change it. Everyone’s ideal start to the day can look different, and it’s important to stick with what works for you. However, for those who find themselves drained before the workday even begins, consider this alternative approach.
Many of us believe that starting the day with high-energy activities like exercise sets the tone for productivity. However, by front-loading our mornings with activities that require focus and creativity, we may be using up our limited reserves of energy, willpower and mental stamina before we even begin our workday. This can leave us mentally drained and struggling to tackle important tasks.
But there's a solution. Consider flipping your morning routine on its head. Instead of starting with high-intensity activities, begin with a period of focused work on your most important tasks. Reserve your mornings for deep work, creative endeavours, or any activities that require your full cognitive capacity.
As an entrepreneur, you have the freedom to plan your day as you see fit. Seize this opportunity by taking control of your mornings and dedicating them to focused work. By doing so, you can ensure that you make the most of your time and move closer to your business goals.
Once you've accomplished your important tasks early in the day, you can then enjoy your workout without the looming worry of unfinished work. This shift not only enhances your focus during the exercise but also enriches your enjoyment and satisfaction, knowing that your most pressing tasks are already completed.
Remember, it’s essential to find what works best for you. Experiment with different approaches and pay attention to how they impact your energy, productivity, mind
set and overall well-being. By rethinking the way you start your day, you may just unlock a whole new level of productivity and achieve your goals in a sustainable way.
Wishing you a productive and fulfilling week ahead!
