Surprising MRI Findings in Kids with Low Back Pain

Low back pain in children and adolescents is not uncommon, but what is the cause? Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans of eleven adolescents with persistent low back pain revealed the following structural abnormalities that may contribute to their chief complaint: scoliosis and kyphosis (36%); disk abnormalities and endplate changes (100%); Scheuermann’s disease (27%); and disk bulges and herniation (72%). These conditions are commonly managed by doctors of chiropractic, no matter the patient’s age.Radiology Research and Practice, February 2018
