Something wonderful about technology; advancements that can seem (and usually are in some way) threatening to existing businesses and organizations can also help adaptable ones find new opportunities they never thought possible, leading to overall industry improvements and gains.
Case in point is the media industry.?
Its evolution has largely been driven by new technology, from the printing press, to the radio, computer, and the internet.? This year, I have been studying media brands and companies and the most recent is Condé Nast. If you watch Architectural Digest videos on Youtube, read Wired or have an immediate visual on reading the word Vogue, you know Conde Nast.
Despite its substantial size and longstanding presence in the industry, Condé Nast found itself unable to escape the sweeping digital transformation that has disrupted the media landscape. It's arguable that larger organizations face greater challenges in responding to such changes due to the intricate complexities that come with their scale. However, it's essential to emphasize that regardless of an organization's size, embracing change becomes imperative.
Turning our focus back to Condé Nast, the shift towards digitalization significantly impacted critical areas such as advertising revenue, shifting consumer preferences, and the competitive landscape. This impact became evident??
What if you could still transform your business exponentially despite the economy?
What if, with about $1,000 (i.e., 1 million naira or just over 4,000 AED) or less, you can start transforming your business digitally, so that you could:
?? Improve operational efficiency and productivity by more than 10%;
?? Significantly enhance your (internal and external) customer experience;
?? Increase revenue and growth by more than 15%;
?? Reduce operational cost by more than 15%; and
?? Establish a continuous improvement culture that ensures your business keeps growing Year on Year (YoY)!
While the specifics may vary depending on your industry, your business goals, and your current digital maturity level, a typical digital transformation (DT) roadmap has 10 to 12 checkpoints: starting with a thorough assessment of the current state of the business and strategically planning the journey, to designing training programs, implementing security measures, and evaluating ROI.
It is just as relevant for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) as it is for the industry giants, and the good news is that you don’t have to do it all now, and you definitely don’t need to break the bank to embark on what is swiftly becoming a critical necessity and it is well worth exploring.
What if, with about $1,000 (i.e., 1 million naira or over 4,000 AED) or less, you can unlock 1 or more of the DT checkpoints?!Does this resonate with your business aspirations? Are you eager to know more about how to reset your business on a more successful path?

In September, we embarked on a transformative journey at Gumi & Company by fully embracing #Agile principles across all our daily operations, extending beyond the realm of product development. It's been nearly five weeks, and the impact has been remarkable – increased productivity, enhanced accountability, and a newfound synergy among our teams.

But why the shift?
We recognized that miscommunication and inconsistency were creeping into our workflows, causing disruptions in alignment and goal-setting – something that didn't sit well with us. Striking the right balance between trust and accountability while maintaining consistently high performance across the team was becoming quite a challenge.
Fast forward to today, and we've witnessed remarkable improvement. The team chemistry is palpable, and we're all on the same page, informed and updated about individual and collective activities. While it's still early days, we can confidently say that September has been a #Scrummy month filled with #Agile spirit and remarkable progress, and we couldn't be happier about it.
Now, you might be wondering why I'm sharing this with you. Well, it's because you, or someone you know, or even a colleague of theirs, might be grappling with similar challenges. I'm here to offer my insights and assistance, should you or they wish to embark on a similar Agile journey.

What is your energy level like at this point in the year? On a scale of 1-10
There is something about a new business season, whether a new year, new quarter, or third, like we do at Gumi. It is marked by reflection, forward thinking and high energy based on the successes and failures of the previous one, and plans for the next.
However, when you get into the thick of it, you discover that energy levels begin to wane as strategic plans give way to routine, execution, and (maybe even) grunt work. That’s where talk of motivation, or the lack of it, comes in. A simple definition of the word is ‘the force behind action, or reason why an action is carried out’. A solution then to inconsistent energy levels that usually translate into lackluster performance over time is in the word itself.
For leaders and teams, a key part of ensuring that work works is being clear on why you are doing what you are doing, as well as how everyone’s role contributes to it.
These are your things to do;
?? Kick off the season aligning the organization as well as teams on the strategic focus. Bonus points for including team members in some parts of building this, if not all.
?? Set OKRs that tie into the overall goal/why, doing this at team and individual level. The former helps with guiding execution, and the latter with accountability and tracking performance
?? Leaders return to the why/plan from time to time, to measure alignment with current actions and progress. Keep in mind that your how can change as you learn during implementation.
?? Use your words. Effective communication makes a world of difference, whether through regular reminders, a long letter, and or talking through issues during team meetings.
