Surge Counter and LCM leakage Current Monitor installed for Surge Arrester could be very effective to reduce the number of accidents. LCM is mounted for grounding the surges and a leakage current can be observed once the line is energized.
The surge counter is installed with every surge Arrester above 33 KV. In Pakistan many accident happens particularly in gantry area for 132 KV substations and on power transformers due to non availability of proper labeling of circuits. The accident happens normally are lethal and causes the death or sever burn injuries.
This small device along with proper labeling and color coding can save many lives. The pictures shows in the title indicate a live circuit where needle / pointer is on 1 position. The position shows that the circuit is energized and one should not go there and may be the line man is on Live Circuit by mistake. The Line Man also must verify all the phases counter as there are the chances that it may be faulty or there are no proper connections from the top for any pointer showing zero.
We should also keep in mind that Surge Counter and LCM are the additional measure one should not consider this is the only things for detecting the circuits as live. Normally all labeling shall be maintained in order to avoid the accidents.
Finally the purpose of writing this is because a small effort can save some one precious life and I request if we can implement in our network and people shall follow it.
