Surfing a pandemic as an entrepreneur: adapt, recover, go global!

The pandemic has given us precious time to dedicate to ourselves and to think on how strong we are, how much we have already endured and how we are going to keep on going because that's what we do, we keep on going.

Maybe it is not the first thing that comes to mind when thinking about this pandemic, but I’m so impressed by the stories I’ve heard so far, from people changing their lives completely and still being able to smile every day and succeed in so many areas. This pandemic changed all our lives: the way we spend time with our family, the way we celebrate special occasions, the way we shop, even the way we work. It gave us new eyes to face this so-called “new normal”. That made me think about sharing, because sharing is caring, right?

Being an entrepreneur gives you so much knowledge to adapt, change, improve and carry on. That’s why I wanted to share here my top three pieces of advice to keep in mind on this new era and succeed on your professional ventures. Let’s start!

Stage 1: Adapt

Change is part of our lives even before the pandemic, but being able to embrace it and work around it can be challenging.  Change that. Welcome change with a smile on your face and accept it so you can start working around it. Resisting change always fires back so, in order to succeed and prosper, find the strength inside you to adapt to this new world we are living in, and trust me I know it sounds like a challenge, but the alternative is way worse.

Uncertainty combined with resisting change can be a major source of anxiety. This anxiety can impact every little thing you do in your daily life, but professionally is going to keep you in a bad place that won’t let you make the changes you need. Welcome and adopt change. Understand the new challenges you can face in your professional career.  Enhance your value. Start your path to success.

Being an entrepreneur gives you a lot of knowledge but it also gives you specific characteristics that can help you in almost any situation! That’s what I want to really advise you on. Adopt an entrepreneurial mindset, this mindset will give you the strength you need to cut costs, improve productivity, keep your customers satisfied and most of all to diversify your income. Generally speaking,  entrepreneurs are always concerned with doing their best and getting the most out of their team.

Stage 2: Recover.

Recovering from this situation is... A challenge. I would like to have an easy way to show you how to do this, but this is not easy for anybody. The thing is, if we recover, then we can move on.

If you're in the process of recovering, focus on all the situations you have overcome by now. Prioritize thinking about those moments every day and that will give you a positive attitude to get back on your feet.

Your mindset will frame how you react to growth and whether you can adapt to it within your workplace. To adjust to a new business environment, we need to predict how the change will affect us, our work, and the workplace.. It will also help you to manage your expectations and to adapt effectively.

Stage 3: Harness the power of globalization.

For this part, I want to share with you a bit about how I embraced change in a moment that wasn’t mandatory.

After I completed my university, at the age of 22, I won a scholarship for pursuing my MBA from Madrid. It was then that I decided to focus entirely on studies and then work in the corporate world. After my stint at Marsh, Repsol and Primax I finally decided to begin my entrepreneurial journey with Levek Turbines in 2014. In 2018, I then set up the DCMS Network in the USA. The biggest change happened in 2019 when I started A4CONECTA USA.

Given the pandemic, to make the most of the opportunity presented to us, in 2020, I started expanding to A4CONECTA TRADING PERU SAC and A4CONECTA CANADA almost virtually by leveraging remote work.

In these times, where it is all about trust, globalization has made the world much smaller. We are more interconnected than ever before, and we have more in common. The globalization of services and goods results in a culture that removes those trust barriers. As cultural differences lessen, communication barriers will diminish, and remote work can flourish.

With the COVID-19 pandemic forcing remote work worldwide, such equalization may be coming sooner than imagined. I do believe that remote work will democratize opportunity and create a consummate free market.

Today, after running three positive cash flow companies based out of the USA, Canada, and Peru, I realize that it is all about Connecting Business and Connecting People. To welcome failure is to acknowledge the temporary state that exists and see the interim as a stepping-stone toward more significant learning.

If I were to leave you with one lesson from my journey, it would be to adopt a solution mindset - Have a set destination but adopt flexible ways to reach the goals.
