SURF AND SO MUCH MORE WAS UP!
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Snenhlanhla Makhubu (3rd year IIE Diploma in Sport Development Management The IIE’s Varsity College Durban North) showcased her surfing skills at the combined The IIE’s Varsity College Durban North, Westville and Pietermaritzburg campuses’ recent Sports & Social Beach Day held at DUC (Durban Underwater Club).? The day showcased the different sporting programmes as well as the social side of campus life to the students with the aim of encouraging them to participate in all aspects of the student experience.
Snenhlanhla, who offers surfing lessons to students of The IIE’s Varsity College, was introduced to surfing by her father when she was only 9 years old. Once she graduates, she plans to continue with coaching surfing while fulfilling her dream of being a sports Manager.
“What I enjoy the most about teaching surfing is introducing something I love to someone who knows nothing or very little about it. I enjoy breaking the fundamentals of surfing down for the newbies, watching the first time they stand up on the surfboard and them improving over time. Surfing may seem simple, but the process is hard so standing up for the first time is always rewarding and such an honour to witness. I really enjoyed the Sport and Social Beach Day and I really hope the campus has more events like these during which students are exposed to surfing”, said Snenhlanhla
?“Participating in a surfing lesson by Snenhlanhla was such an interesting learning experience and I really enjoyed being out on the ocean”, said Stephanie Maurel (2nd year IIE Bachelor of Commerce The IIE’s Varsity College Westville).
