"Surely there is a better way!" The first step to transforming your business.
Digital transformation…Definitely the buzz phrase for this year. If I put into the search engine, I find results for every major IT vendor and media outlet. We all have an opinion on it. Often an opinion that contains big concepts and sounds like it is not for the businesses on the smaller side of the scale.
I actually believe the exact opposite to be true: I believe that small business is on the cutting edge of digital transformation. There are small businesses who are doing phenomenal things and disrupting industries that have been around for years. Uber and Airbnb being the most prominent, but there are countless others. Microsoft recently spoke about The Yield who are transforming the Oyster industry through sensor technology and the Kavanagh Ballooning story is definitely worth a read to understand how he is using technology to transform his hot air balloon business.
These are examples of how small business sought technology solutions to solve fundamental problems in their businesses. They felt a discomfort and decided that there must be a better way…Surely we should be able to track temperature changes in water? Surely we can do away with paper maps? The question is: What is the burning question in your business? Sometimes it is not as ground-breaking as revamping the oyster industry, but do any of these questions sound familiar?
- Surely there is a better way to do expenses?
- Surely our staff should be able to work from home?
- Surely we should be able to do quotes while we are at a customer?
- Surely we should be able to track our marketing efforts centrally?
- Surely we should be able to predict when a machine needs maintenance?
- Surely there must be a better way to manage our call queue?
Yes, yes, yes and yes…The answer is yes. There is a better way. So, how do you turn the burning question into an actual solution. It is really simple...Read more here.

8 年Thanks, Joe. I do think we need to ask some fairly basic questions and just follow through to get the answers. Opportunity is born in the chaos...If that is the perspective then it is really about those "Surely" questions that you and I ask every day.
