The Surefire Way To Fail With Facebook Ads

Do you struggle to decide which image or video to put with in which ad? Have you ever thought, "nah, I like this other picture better. Let's put the images in the ad that I like best" and just changed that ad based on what you thought would be the best image or video without testing?
Back when I was a "wet behind the ear" advertising guy on Facebook I would actually do the same thing.
What I would do is put in my favorite images in the ads. I thought that would work the best. I used to put in my favorite images inside of these Facebook ads and say, "This ad will definitely hit it out of the park. How can people not like this picture? I LOVE this picture in the ad. I really like this picture & I'm pretty sure everybody else is going to like it." Then I actually didn't test out any ads other than my the ones that were my favorite.
I also wrote my ads based on how I liked them.
Man, was this a big mistake. When I started to run these kinds of ads I would notice that sometimes they would do well and sometimes they did okay and sometimes they did terrible.
I spent thousands of dollars out of my own pocket on Facebook and wonder why my test wouldn't work as I had thought.
"This is my favorite picture. Why is this ad doing so bad?" I would grumble.
"Maybe if I thought if I made more ads, one of them would do better. But which images should I use? I don't like any of them. They're all ugly." I would say.
And the funny part was that I ended up testing these "ugly" images anyway and what happened was they actually ended up performing a lot better.
These "ugly" images actually ended up doing two to three times better than my "pretty" images. After that day I no longer let my brain or my eyeballs determine which ad I like and what ads I'm going to run. I found that actually to be an unprofitable method of running Facebook ads.
So the more profitable way I've found to run Facebook ads is to let the market determine which ad it likes the best and which ads get the most amount of people buying or converting from the ad.
After all... isn't that what advertising is all about?
The funny part about all of this is that most people do this every single day. They let there brain tell them beforehand which ads they like and don't even consider running the ads doesn't appeal to them.
Most people think, "I love this Adobe stock photo image", or "This photo on my homepage is amazing. We're going to use it for the Facebook ad."
I want to tell you that that is a surefire way to have a very unproductive and an unprofitable Facebook ad. I know this because I have had the experience of thinking the same exact thing at one point in my life.
Many business owners that run Facebook ads suffer from the "If I like it, it means that everyone must like it" delusion. Most of them have no idea that one ad can perform better and can bring in 13 times as many leads and customers as another ad from just changing the image.
Now, I'm not going to go into the technical detail about how to do that. It would take a lot longer for me to do.
If your Facebook ads are tanking and wish that they were doing better please send me a message on LinkedIn. We'll have a chat to see if I can help you and to see if we're a good fit to work together.
