Thanks to my friend Mike Kelly for sharing his perspective on racial issues. Based on my conversation with him, plus a few actions I’ve already taken, here are a few suggestions. Please add your suggestions in the comments below.
- Increase your knowledge of racial issues and systemic bias. If you’re an Amazon Prime member, take time to watch some of the documentaries and movies that address racial bias. Mike also recommended the book, Slavery by Another Name.
- Take a look in the mirror. Consciously reveal your own biases and identify actions to address them.
- Establish your personal vision. Who do you want to be - for yourself and for others. Identify how love and compassion for others fits into your vision.
- Do what I did… Have a conversation with someone who has different experiences and perspectives. Learn from them.
- Take action. You don’t need to lead a protest or blast people on social media. Take a step that is meaningful to you and will advance social justice and equity. Then take the next step…
