Supporting Talent in Good Times and Bad

Supporting Talent in Good Times and Bad

In the latest?State of HR survey , 40% of you told us that you are addressing mental health and wellness at work by creating a supportive environment for employees to talk about their concerns. Frankly, you have no idea what your people are going through besides their workload and meeting KPIs that you've set for them - unless you ask. Sometimes, that's not even enough. Sometimes, you must ask more than once or follow up when you see their face is telling a different story than their spoken response. And you must be ready to provide help, comfort, or at least the opportunity for them to speak their truth.?

That's tough. It can be awkward to have those conversations with co-workers or with managers and other leaders. But the difference between great leaders and everyone else is that they can connect with people, and they're in tune with their emotions. They recognize that tending to their heart, their social nature, and whatever challenges they are confronting is how to help them reach their full potential. That's why you should tune into the upcoming?HR Exchange Talks with Claude Silver , the Chief Heart Officer at VaynerMedia. She gets this. She has a unique approach to Human Resources, and she will discuss how to connect the wellness of employees with the benefits and experiences you offer.?

The great news about the current state of HR is that employers are making great strides in customizing the employee experience. That includes how they address the health needs of different segments of workers. For instance, many are talking more openly about topics like fertility and menopause benefits. These subjects are no longer taboo because more and more women are entering the workforce - and eventually more of them will be leaders, too.?

For now, it's about helping people remain productive and happy, so they stay at their current jobs and contribute. It's about helping them cope in their time of need. It's about making work more like a community. And we have an?innovative two-part conversation ?coming up in the next month about the menopause demographic and how employers can better support it. The fact that we're having this discussion is, frankly, awe-inspiring. Clearly, we've turned a new corner in HR - and the workplace as a whole. We hope you'll join us for this talk and the greater journey that it represents.?

Mental health and wellness is a cornerstone of employee experience now. There is no turning back, and I for one am grateful.
