Supporting Sustainable Agriculture and Watershed Stewardship in North Dakota in Partnership with International Water Institute
Global Water Challenge
Mobilizing collective action to deliver clean water for all
@Global Water Challenge (GWC) salutes the work of the @International Water Institute (IWI). IWI is a community organization with a mission to foster watershed stewardship through leadership in decision support, environmental monitoring and educational programming.
Through Cargill Currents North America, GWC is partnering with IWI to improve land and water resource management and promote sustainable agriculture in the Red River of the North Basin in North Dakota and Minnesota.
To accomplish this, IWI initiated a pioneering partnership with a food-grade soybean company to champion land and water stewardship for their contracted farmers. Their goal is to enroll 50,000 acres into regenerative land and water stewardship practices by the end of 2024. The program quantifies the farmers’ stewardship efforts and estimates the conservation impact on watershed resources such as water, soil and phosphorus. This initiative underscores a shared commitment to sustainability and promotes a proactive stance towards environmental stewardship among local stakeholders.
