Supporting Racial Justice and the Voice of the Community

As we turn the page to 2023, United Way is continuing to shift our community impact agenda to promote financial well-being and prosperity in order to advance economic opportunity for all. Part of this work means expanding our funding priorities to include initiatives that support racial justice across the Commonwealth, and those that incorporate the voices of the communities themselves. We’re excited to close out 2022 with tangible progress in both areas.

Earlier this month, we announced a partnership with The New Commonwealth Fund to cultivate equitable policies. And as an early signal of our commitment to community voice, we’ve established Community Action Grants, which will put funding into the hands of collective action and grassroots organizations that provide focused, resident-informed services to their communities. New Fund Established to Cultivate Equitable Policies in Massachusetts

United Way and the New Commonwealth Racial Equity and Social Justice Fund are providing a $600,000 grant to the 美国波士顿大学 Center for Antiracist Research to develop a racial policy tracker for Massachusetts, part of a collaboration that will focus on youth justice.

UW Community Action Grants Will Support Hyper-Local Efforts

In a new effort to partner with coalitions and grassroots organizations working to implement local initiatives or campaigns, we launched unrestricted, one-year Community Action Grants, which will be awarded to advance early education and out-of-school time; youth and young adult pathways; housing stability; and/or economic Inclusion and wealth building.
