Supporting professional learning: A key role of leadership
There is much written about 'Leadership Styles' but less on the purpose of leadership; certainly less on the 'enabling learning' as an aspect of leadership.
In education, and I suspect in most industries, it is certainly true that the quality of the institution cannot exceed the quality of the staff. In schools this translates as the quality of the school cannot exceed the quality of the teaching.
And yet, how often is the role of developing professional learning delegated down from the top and not seen as a key role of the most senior leaders in the school?

7 年Agree, Joyce. There is a quote in one of the McKinsey reports from a Canadian Principal - the role of the teacher is to teach children and the role of the principal is to enable adult learning. I need to dig it out. I know you agree but does enough school leadership development acknowledge this! Graham
