Supporting Maternal Mental Health: Breaking Stigma, Providing Care.

May is Maternal Mental Health Awareness Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of maternal mental health and breaking the stigma around mental health challenges that many new mothers face. At Akoma Health, we support mothers' mental health through accessible and culturally responsive care.

Pregnancy and motherhood can be an exciting and joyous time for many women but can also be challenging and overwhelming. Women may experience various emotions, including anxiety, sadness, and stress, as they navigate the physical, emotional, and social changes that come with having a baby.

While it's normal to experience some stress and anxiety during this time, for some women, these feelings can become more severe and become perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs). PMADs are a group of mental health conditions that can occur during pregnancy or within the first year after childbirth. They include depression, anxiety, postpartum psychosis, and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Unfortunately, many women who experience PMADs don't receive the support and treatment they need. Some may not recognize that what they are experiencing is a mental health condition, while others may feel ashamed or afraid to seek help.

That's where Akoma Health comes in. We provide online counseling and support to everyone, including pregnant and postpartum women, regardless of location. Our therapists are trained in evidence-based practice, ensuring our clients receive the best care possible. We believe that mother deserves access to mental health care, and we're working to make that a reality.

By raising awareness about maternal mental health and our services at Akoma Health, we aim to reach more women who need support during this critical time. We encourage you to:

  1. ?Share this information with anyone you know who may be struggling with perinatal mental health and
  2. ?Visit our website at www.akomahealth.io to connect with high-quality, culturally conscious mental health professionals. Together, we can break the stigma and provide support and care to needy mothers.
