Supporting Latinx Employees: A Commitment Beyond Hispanic Heritage Month

Supporting Latinx Employees: A Commitment Beyond Hispanic Heritage Month

Hispanic Heritage Month is a time to celebrate the rich culture, history, and contributions of the Latinx community. It’s also an opportunity for employers to reflect on how they can support their Hispanic and Latinx employees — not just during this designated month, but throughout the year as well.?

We are proud to say that Salesforce is a We Are All Human partner, and together Lori Castillo Martinez , EVP & Chief Equality Officer of Salesforce , and I worked on this article. Here are a few tips on how to support the community and foster diversity and inclusion during this time and beyond:?

Supporting Career Growth and Development?

As companies strive for greater inclusion in the workplace, it is imperative to address the specific needs and aspirations of Hispanic and Latinx employees — a growing demographic in the workforce. To harness the full potential of this talent pool, companies should proactively support their career development. We believe when you get to the top, you leave the ladder down for other people to follow you. That’s what was done for us, and it has played a huge role in the paths we’ve taken and the successes we’ve had.?

Supporting the career development of Hispanic and Latinx employees is not just a matter of social responsibility; it’s also a strategic imperative for companies looking to thrive in an increasingly diverse and globalized world. By fostering inclusion, attracting top talent, and mitigating the opportunity gap, organizations are able to better reflect their customer base and position themselves for long-term success. All while promoting a more equitable and inclusive workplace for all.?

Embed Equality Practices in Your Business Strategies?

Diversity and inclusion are not just ethical imperatives but also sound business strategies. Diverse teams foster creativity, problem-solving, and a broader perspective that contributes to our long-term growth.?

For example, through partnerships with Latinx-led organizations, such as We Are All Human, HITEC, and Latinas in Tech, companies are able to amplify their impact for these specific communities. These collaborations allow all of us to broaden our reach and effect meaningful change.

Practice Active Allyship?

Being an active ally for Hispanic communities goes beyond workplace initiatives. Additionally, we all have a role to play in advancing equality. Here are ways you can be an active ally:?

  • Educate Yourself: Take the time to learn about the history, culture, and challenges the Hispanic community faces. This knowledge will help you better understand their experiences.?
  • Promote Diversity and Inclusion: Advocate for diversity and inclusion in your workplace, educational institutions, or community organizations. Encourage the hiring and promotion of Hispanic individuals and create an inclusive environment for all.?
  • Volunteer and Collaborate: Offer your time and skills to local Hispanic-focused organizations that are working to uplift the community. Whether it's tutoring, mentoring, or organizing events, your support can make a meaningful difference.?

Hispanic Heritage Month is an incredible opportunity to acknowledge the crucial role that Hispanic and Latinx communities play in shaping the future of our country and world, as we celebrate and recognize these communities as employees, suppliers, consumers, and community. Hispanic and Latinx employees deserve to be seen, heard, and valued. These employees are more likely to engage with individuals or organizations that actively invest in and celebrate their contributions to society — which are driving prosperity, power, and progress.?

Supporting Hispanic and Latinx communities is an ongoing commitment, extending beyond Hispanic Heritage Month. It requires dedication, education, and action to create an inclusive and equitable world for all.
