Supporting the Junior State -- a Personal Appeal

Hi Friends.

Many of you know that the Junior State played a critical role in my life. I was a very active member all through high school (along with several of you) and have continued to support them above all other organizations throughout my adult life, including serving for the past several years as one of their Trustees.

What many of you may not know is the critical role that the Junior State can play in educating and involving students in America’s political processes and political life. We are living in unprecedented times. This is a critical moment for our democracy and the growth of hyper-partisanship is damaging to our political and social order. In order to strengthen our democracy for generations to come, we must provide our youth with opportunities to learn to communicate with each other about difficult political issues, in a reasoned, reasonable, and non-partisan way. And they need to learn how to carry that knowledge forward into their adult political lives. Learning the processes and learning how to participate…This is what the Junior State is all about.  

That’s why I’m asking you to join me in supporting the critical work of The Junior State of America Foundation. JSA is strengthening American democracy by educating and preparing high school students for life-long involvement and responsible leadership in our nation. We are non-partisan, active in 35 states, and impact thousands of students a year.
