Supporting the Community in Guangzhou

Christmas is a time of giving and the WallStreetEnglish GF Service Team gave a special holiday treat to a group of migrant children in Guangzhou. The team delivered some gifts including books and learning tools, making this December a very memorable festive time for the children.

Over the years, migrant workers have made great contributions to the economic and social development of Guangdong however, this has made Guangdong one of the provinces with the largest number of migrant children. Despite their parents’ contribution, this group of children are facing the challenge of access to public and quality education in the city. It’s with such a background that WallStreetEnglish is joining hands with the “He?Home” project under Harmony Community Foundation committed to promoting fair education for migrant children this year.

9 GF Service Team colleagues led by GF RSD Alex Hoerenz visited “He?Home” in Panyu District, Guangzhou on December 13th. They brought gifts for 20 migrant children at the community center, including bags, bottles, notebooks, Christmas stationery as well as Chinese and English books. The team read English books to the children in groups. The kids were excited to see foreign teachers, which is a rare opportunity for them. To show their appreciation, all the children made thank-you cards for every WallStreetEnglish volunteer. The event was wrapped up with a fun LEGO activity, enjoyed by all.

We would like to express our most sincere thanks to GZ7 STS Carol Li, who organized this event, as well as the GF Service Team that made the donation and participated in this community activity.

It is WallStreetEnglish’s long tradition to be committed to volunteering services and shouldering social responsibility in the community. The Guangzhou activity is one among many of such kind, run around the country this year. We hope that we can work together to keep this heartwarming tradition and provide a positive impact to the communities we live in.
