Supporting Berlin Startups and the Berlin Startup Ecosystem in 2023

After a long, yet inclusive, process of crafting, signing and publicizing the #berlinstartupagenda last year together with major players within the startup sector, first and foremost the #Startupverband and the #Bitkom, 2023 has been a year of support activities for the ecosystem.

Find the journey to the Berlin Startup Agenda here .

2023 activities

We formed working groups to regularly exchange ideas, increase transparency and start supporting activities in the Startup Agenda's five fields of action:

  1. Berlin – City of Impact
  2. Berlin – City of Diversity
  3. Berlin – City of Enablement
  4. Berlin – City of Talent
  5. Berlin – City of Cooperation

As all of the agenda’s supporters put these efforts on top of their regular commitments and without dedicated budget, we decided to focus on those support activities where we expected most benefits: joining forces and doing things (better) together. In doing so we got a feeling of quicker and more intense unfolding potentials of activities.

Plus: next to these five focal topics we were also deeply involved in industries and topics such as #FinTech, #Deeptech, #GlobalConnectedness, #Health, #ScaleUps, #Investment and many many more.

For example, within and around these fields, we supported – at varying levels – Startup meets Industry , Creative Bureaucracy Festival , Entrepreneurship Summit , Water Challenge , AI Chatboot for IBB challenge , Reallabore consultation and Vergabegesetz consultation of the Federal Ministry for Economic affairs and Energy, Reallabor program of the Berlin Senate, Greentech Festival , Impact festival , GICA , Asia Berlin Summit , Circular City , Startup Challenges , Tech Awards Gala , Startupnight and many many others.

We also developed or supported the preparation of publications like

Pay a visit to our Startup Agenda website: bit.ly/BerlinStartupAgenda ; there you will also find the very very honorable contact persons for the five focal topics.

Brief report by Prof. Dr. Yasmin Olteanu

We keep on exchanging ideas on the relevant topics. More than one year into the agenda’s implementation the energy is still high. We are thrilled and grateful about the huge number of participants in our regular meetings. And we already have plenty of ideas for the months and years to come.

All this is happening next to Berlin public support programs, e.g. https://www.ibbventures.de/de/news/office-hour , https://www.ibb.de/de/foerderprogramme/berliner-startup-stipendium.html , https://www.ibb.de/de/foerderprogramme/gruendungsbonus.html , https://service.berlin.de/dienstleistung/350664/ , https://www.ibb.de/de/foerderprogramme/pro-fit-projektfinanzierung.html and private support like: https://bacb.de/en/ and many many others

We also had the chance to get to know ideas on and also visit ringberlin and KIpark and a lot of other projects in this always vibrant and never to be overseen Berlin ecosystem.

In times of poly-crises we started poly-cooperations

Briefly saying from my point of view: Berlin’s startup ecosystem is alive – and kicking! In times of poly-crises we started poly-cooperations, as Sebastian Neumann puts it.

Most important: thanks to all founders and startups for their energy and their contributions to push the Berlin innovation ecosystem. Thanks for the open exchange and very useful feedback. Thanks for being part of the problem solving engine needed to tackle today's and tomorrow's challenges.
