Supporting Airport Design students at Cranfield University

All this week Martell House at Cranfield University , has been turned into a creative design studio offering students and CPD delegates on the Airport Design Module of the Airport Planning and Management MSc course, opportunities to interact with lecturers and guest speakers, including our very own Matthew Butters .?

Following last years’?success,?module participants will search for design strategies that enable airports to grow in a different, sustainable way, considering Urban Turbine principles of sharing facilities and infrastructure with their neighbouring communities, applying?results from EU funded IMHOTEP and imagining?how airports should be designed ready to achieve ambitious 2050 Zero Carbon targets and extend their role they play in society improving quality of life.

Matthew will assess the outcome of the designs from the Airport Design Student Workshop conceived following an intense week of stimulating conversations with guest speakers including:

What is IMHOTEP?

IMHOTEP is a research project funded under SESAR 2020 Exploratory Research. The goal of IMHOTEP is to develop a concept of operations and a set of data analysis methods, predictive models and decision support tools that allow information sharing, common situational awareness and real?time collaborative decision-making between airports and ground transport stakeholders.

IMHOTEP is conducted by consortium composed by Nommon (Project Coordinator), Cranfield University, ISDEFE, Aimsun, Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, Technical University of Dresden, AENA, EMT Palma and London City Airport.

What is Urban Turbine?

The Urban Turbine research project is investigating the possibilities of sharing facilities for the greatest mutual benefit of airports and cities, manage better demand and capacity and respond to new global travel, life and work requirements.
