Support System Needed for Early Life Stresses
A study by Christopher Fagundes, assistant professor of psychology at Rice University (see https://news.rice.edu/2015/12/17/inflammation-can-fan-the-flames-of-depression-2/#sthash.9ZWNza7r.dpuf), showed that stress, inflammation, mental and physical health are all related. Fagundes noted that a strong support system early in life is critical in helping individuals learn to deal with stress later in life. The National Association for the Education of Young Children recommends physical exercise for both teachers and children to reduce reduce stress. While I was in India, the children at Gamru Village School practiced yoga in addition to physical education and recess and seemed relatively low stressed despite their high poverty. What is your school doing to address the stress students are feeling?
