Support local businesses to support your local economy
In lean times, consumers pinch pennies and eliminate most luxuries. The ongoing Coronavirus pandemic is a once-in-a-lifetime crisis for most businesses. These circumstances have led to mass cancellations or postponement of national and international sporting events across the world.
This is a tough time for the whole sports ecosystem, from athletes to organizers and sports media worldwide. With the tournaments being rescheduled and athletes not being able to practice, it is important we support this ecosystem. Associations, organizers, broadcasters, and other sports bodies are doing their best to get the maximum out of this situation. Sports fans, though can’t get any latest live-action, can still shower their favorite players with love and support via regional sports media channels, giving a reason for everyone to stay afloat.
According to recent news, experts from the sports industry weigh in on the matter. Abhinav Bindra says, “The post-COVID world could be a blessing in disguise for India. There may not be so much foreign exposure and this may allow India to build proper sporting infrastructure.” Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Kiran Rijiju said about 15,000 sportspersons are being trained in Training Centres under Khelo India. "It is our dream to make India a superpower in sports. We have decided to constitute a Talent Search Committee," Rijiju said.
Going local and supporting local or “vocal about local” is what will support our economy in the long run. Hiring local bodies for events will help sustain the ecosystem and help in damage control. In addition to this, national and international players may even resume their sessions but grassroots level athletes would still go through struggles for a longer period. Don’t forget to show support to the stronger roots of the sports industry and our future rising stars! Help them create more awareness during this period and help them secure their future with your small steps and gestures.
It is obvious to foresee that MSMEs will have to work hard to ride out the storm on their own. In such a volatile environment, smaller, local businesses count on your patronage in order to keep running; every transaction is precious to them. So when deciding where to spend your hard-earned dollars on tonight’s dinner or a gift for a friend, consider the benefits of turning to local, independently-owned businesses within your community. Help us and our local community grow in these tough times!
