Every day, Genesys Works provides our young professionals with an opportunity and a chance to achieve their dreams of economic success. With astounding levels of optimism and resiliency, our young professionals choose to be change agents for their schools, families, friends, and our corporate partners. The courage they demonstrate is immeasurable.
Our young professionals rise each morning and prepare themselves for their day. They trek to school, fully immerse in their courses for 4 to 5 hours of instruction, eat lunch, and commute to their internships where they add meaningful value at work for 4 hours. Then, they return home and refocus their attention to complete their homework in preparation for their high school graduation day. Our remarkable young professionals repeat this process daily for 10 months because it opens doors to economic success and long-term professional support.
By the time they complete their senior year and paid internship, our young professionals are inspired. They have gained tremendous confidence in their own abilities to achieve success. They have built professional relationships and overcome their fears. They have acquired new skills in accounting, business operations, and information technology which will help them succeed in college or on a new career pathway. They have learned what it feels like to earn money for themselves, their families, and their future.
Over the course of my 30-year career working with Chicago’s youth, I have not seen anything as impactful as the Genesys Works model. Every Chicago Public School senior deserves to feel that sense of confidence and personal accomplishment when they walk the stage to accept their diploma. Additionally, the results for college completion and careers that lead to economic self-sufficiency are compelling.
