Support These Guys!

The cost of living crisis and reduction in funding is pushing grassroots organisations, not-for-profits and new enterprises into spaces that are more precarious than ever. Hayley Joyes picks three of the good ones that you should be supporting and buying tickets this spring:

1. #SustainSaffron?

Less than 5% of the music tech industry is women, non-binary or trans people. Less than 1% of these are Black, Asian or ethnically diverse. Saffron has been running music tech courses and mentoring for the last 7 years, as part of the surge in BLM funding they received has now dried up…

“As a mixed Black Caribbean-led organisation we were eligible for a number of grants sparked by the Black Lives Matter 2020 movement. This allowed us to thrive in the short term, but these funds were largely one-off gestures rather than essential ongoing core support.”

Now they need your help to stay afloat: pledge here or buy a membership or course for someone you think would be interested.

2. Planet EartH

This grand indie venue in Hackney venue was the host for our The Bu$ine$$ of Culture event. We love them because their venue is beautiful, but we also love the fact that their programming prioritises artists, individuals and groups who attempt to innovate, progress and collaborate their craft to push creativity forwards. Head down to Hackney to check out performance art, political talks and the best underground sounds. Full listing here.

Limitless Live at The Roundhouse, London is a music festival with social purpose at its core. It aims to reach, inspire and connect aspirational talent from underrepresented backgrounds by providing workshops, panels, the Limitless Black Influence Awards and gig tickets. As part of this year’s event, 2000 young people are invited to attend Limitless Live FOR FREE via this link. Limitless is working with community and charity partners to ensure that even with a cost of living crisis young people still have access to live music moments. Taking place on Saturday 8th April the line up features: MOBO and BET award-winning duo Krept & Konan, rap pioneer K-Trap, Carla Prat, Crystal Millz and DJ Cuppy.
