Supply Chain Transformation: Technologies That Shape Future Trends
Welcome to the inaugural edition of Tech Vision, a new biweekly newsletter highlighting software trends, QA practices, and insights from an IT service company told through the experience lens. The first issue is fully dedicated to the transformation of the supply chain, which has become a widely discussed topic lately.?
Since the beginning of 2020, when the global pandemic started to unfold, many businesses, global leaders among them, had to discover the gaps in their SCM operations the hard way. It all revealed a huge potential and an equally huge need for in-depth analysis and improvement.
According to Statista:
“42% of supply management organizations stated that increased cost to supply management due to the Covid-19 pandemic was one of their top concerns of 2021.”
Of those in the supply chain management industry, 45.1% (Statista) said that they were investing in warehouse management software and that automation was a key feature, with a focus on new technologies. AI platforms aimed at driving digital transformation will be adopted by 60% of G2000 manufacturing organizations by 2024, which could increase productivity by 20%. (Inbound Logistics 2019)
After 2 years, we could see the first results of the transformation. Digitization in the supply chain opens new opportunities for business owners and streamlines daily operations.
What can businesses make of it? Those willing to embrace new tech solutions will be able to boost the efficiency of their teams on different levels and, eventually, strengthen their positions in the market.?
The good news is that: digitization doesn’t mean layoffs – instead, changes in some job roles and responsibilities; businesses shouldn’t strive to reform everything but take small steps and focus on what is reasonable to change. Gartner Supply Chain Top 25 for 2022 research has shown that the top three areas for tech implementation are planning, visibility, and transportation management. The top three technologies businesses use to strengthen their supply chains are big data & analytics, robotics automation, and digital twins.

Following this, one of the most interesting subjects is becoming an analysis of the current and potential transformation process and the impact of new technologies on it. Plus, explaining what’s been happening by briefly discussing influential trends won’t be exhaustive, but it will give at least a general idea of where the industry is heading.

Our team formed and collected these insights while working on various supply chain projects. Let’s dive into one of those!
Orderly has been providing business-critical supply chain technology to a range of enterprises for over a decade. They reached out to us looking for QA engineers who would be able to: set up the communication; analyze the product; prepare test documentation for it; run the necessary testing activities; align software testing with the overall development process.
To begin with, the quality assurance expert needed to prepare extensive testing documentation to describe the QA process and set the standards for future work on the project.??
Mobile testing was critical for the product. Thus, testing on tablets was the main focus. The QA specialist suggested performing the following: functional testing; exploratory testing;?smoke testing; user interface testing; performance testing; accessibility testing.
QA specialists discovered many defects centered around user roles, which come with specific accesses and functionalities. There are a variety of such roles, and they are a part of the core software functionality. Therefore, sufficient attention to this part of the products helps achieve Orderly’s bigger goals directly: enable their clients with digital solutions that can turn data into actionable insights, which support businesses in their strive for sustainability. Case Study with a more detailed look at this project, you can check soon on our website. ??
The feedback Orderly’s COO shared about our cooperation inspired us no less than working on this project:
“QA Madness provides full-time QA support for our product team, being in charge of QA for a number of ongoing products. Several quality assurance experts are engaged in the project full-time and are responsible for handling a range of product enhancements. We’ve noticed the consistent improvement of the products after the QA team joined.”
That’s all for now. Thank you for reading! We’ll be back soon with another Tech Vision issue.
