Supply-Chain Priorities 2023
I just came across an article from Supplify where, based on a survey, they listed the key priorities of Supply-Chain for 2023.
The 2023 “Top-5” in Operational Priorities is pretty much the same as we have seen over the last decades, this however with the exception of one: “Increase sustainability and ESG focus”.
Whereas "awareness" is a good first step into the right direction, it however is surprising that if you look at “Solutions you want to invest in” this key priority is nowhere to be found. Maybe it is just a lack of understanding of the problem, but it seems that everyone believes you can create a more sustainable and ESG friendly Procurement and Supply-Chain environment by just putting it in your top-5 list and wait for it to happen.
What is even more surprising is that very mundane things as E2E visibility, Warehouse automation, Warehouse management (WMS) and Inventory management are still hitting the list for investments. Truth to be told we know (we see it every day) that many companies are struggling with this, but if you have just spent a 7 or 8 digit number on implementing the latest version of your ERP system, you can hardly go back to your CFO and ask for additional budget since simple tasks as inventory and warehouse management is just not working as you’d need it to.
