Supplier Matters

"Supplier Matters" is my first & foremost step in the direction of achieving the highest standards of Procurement Excellence, by ensuring Authentic Craftsmanship & Un-compromising Principles as organizations across the world strive hard at raising the bar of ‘superior & evolved’ products in a highly dynamic marketplace.

With my experience spanning over 28 years, with distinguished Multi-national companies I can safely say that Managing Supplies & Managing Suppliers are the building blocks to a well crafted & holistic Supply Chain Solution. While both are indispensable to each other, they require to be dealt with utmost sensitivity & precision as independent entities that require separate Standard Operating Processes & Skill sets.

My book :Supplier Matter" is a humble & well thought out effort to deliver Supply Chain Excellence, Productivity, Quality & Consumer Satisfaction. The book highlights the fundamental principles with regard to an organization’s Supplier Selection Process & it’s feasibility in the long run to ensure Business & Operation Excellence. Many a times, companies take the route of opting for L1 Suppliers through ‘Reverse Auction’- which is turning out be a regressive practice & eventually poses to be a costly bet, based on the concept of TOCO (Total Cost of Ownership). It is highly prudent to understand & realize that Procurement can be challenging & frustrating if quality, time commitment of supplier is poor and there is a potential lack capability in context to technology, finance, supply-chain etc.

In this radical, thought provoking book, I have made an attempt at showcasing the impact small times decisions or individual biases which can prove detrimental to an organization, if they do not give due emphasis to letter “R” in word SUPPLIER i.e. Robust & Right Selection Criteria. Robust & Right Selection Criteria are the Key Pillars around which Procurement Decisions must be made, in order to achieve & optimize the Business Plans without compromising on Quality & Productivity. These are my personal learning as a professional & student for life in the Chemical & FMCG industry with renowned global companies, wherein, practicing good supplier selection practices, delivered high-performance business results. However, if these processes were not adhered to, it could have huge implications on the human, animals or environment related aspects. There have been gut wrenching cases where companies have gone bankrupt, owing to poor decision making in the Supply Chain vertical.

In my book, I have simple but powerful practices on Supplier Selection to mitigate such risks and a step-by-step Progress Mechanism that one can use to bring about positive & constructive change in the Supply-Chain Process, including how cultural aspects affect supplier relationship management in global scenario.

The prime message in “Supplier Matters” clearly states, To be successful in your business, we need a strong Supply-Chain foundation ~ Right supplier can make or Wrong supplier can break your business. Likewise, in one’s personal life applies with “Spouse”, Hence, it is my honest submission that Supply Chain Matters be looked into with greater detail & emphasis on Choosing the Right Business Partners & Modules for one’s organization.
