It was a new day. The rays signaled the arrival of a new dawn and she had a spring in her stride this morning even though the ambience bore a lazy countenance.
Her lovable spouse was still on the bed though half awake as he looked at her.
“Am I forgetting something? Are you going somewhere?” the questions sounded logical as it was barely seven in the morning and she was getting ready. As she preened herself in front of the mirror, her new dress really complimented her and the minimal accessories accentuated her overall looks.
“My heart still flutters for you, my Superwoman.” her spouse said in a doting manner.
She reciprocated with a wink as she headed towards her kids’ room. Both kids were still asleep and she was about to close the door, she saw a handmade card on the study table. Her curiosity took her near the table and as she took the card in her hand, the letters on it read as, ‘To, my Super Mom, Happy Woman’s Day!’. She bent to give a peck on the forehead of her kids and then headed towards the kitchen.
“Have you prepared tea for Mummy and Papa?” she asked the maid.
“Yes, Didi.” the maid responded in affirmative.
She took the tea alongwith the medicines. It was her morning ritual and she was so organized that the need to have a dosette box for the medicines was never felt.
“Beti, we are so lucky to have you. You are our daughter rather than our daughter in law. You manage your home as well as work in such a smooth manner.” her mother-in-law blessed her in an affectionate manner.
“Of course, she is our Superwoman.” her father-in-law joined the conversation.
She hurried towards the kitchen again as she looked at her watch. She checked the food prepared for the breakfast and after she was satisfied with the preparation, she headed towards the main door.
“Didi, will you not eat breakfast?” asked the maid.
“No, I am getting late. I have to participate in the car rally today. We are celebrating Woman’s Day today.” she responded.
“Yeah, I saw it outside. It is so beautifully decorated. You are so good, didi. The entire family calls you a superwoman and they are absolutely right about it.” the maid said with admiration in her eyes.
She reciprocated with a warm smile.
As she sat in her car that was decorated with frills and with a poster related to the occasion that read as ‘Woman empowerment cannot be a slogan anymore, it needs an action now.’, her mind wandered around the morning activities and she felt proud about herself.
Everyone in the family was fond of her and on the professional front, she was admired for her successful entrepreneurship.
And then, just as she was about to start the car, a thought struck her: Do I need to be a Superwoman to celebrate the Woman’s Day? What would have happened if I would have been just a simple woman?
There are more questions than answers right now but one thing is for sure: the time, we will have the answers to these questions, that time will be the new dawn; a new day. Hopefully, that day, we will not acknowledge women only when they prove themselves to be Superwomen.
To all the wonderful women in my life, I feel blessed and fortunate to have you. Happy Woman’s Day! :)
