If Superheroes Owned Domain Names, They'd Be Unstoppable

I've purchased ~150 domain names over the past 17 years. Many of which I either never renewed when they expired and they got scooped up by someone else, or I kept them around for the nostalgia of the business idea or a product I was excited about during some point in my life. Still others host my side hustles: internetofmysteriousthings.com, laundrynfc.com, bozemanair.com or future creations. Domain names are memories - a huge part of my journey as a software engineer to learning and innovating.

Since I've become an avid collector of domains, it's probably no surprise that I reached out to one of my favorite female leaders in technology and role models,? Sandy Carter, when she announced she was joining a startup called Unstoppable Domains. I had to learn more. Sandy and I jumped on the phone and her excitement for the company and conviction that Web3 was the future, left me with goosebumps. She asked me if I'd be open to chatting with the founders. This was my moment to be part of making history.

I hit it off with the cofounders, Matthew Gould and Braden Pezeshki. Their energy and belief in the mission of people owning the internet and putting individuals back in control of their data and identity, was inspiring.

The internet is an unstoppable force,?and for 50 years its drummed the rhythm of humanity's march forward.
But somewhere along the way, we missed a few beats. Surrendered our data and privacy. And became ‘users’ instead of people.
But in the far corners of the web,?A new internet is being built to an unstoppable anthem.
In this brave new world, We’re citizens of the metaverse. Actual people who’ve rejected rented, fungible usernames. In favor of ownership to something much more profound:
Our names.?
One single name that defines you across Web3.????
?A name for getting paid?
A name to prove you’re, well you.
A name to login everywhere you go.
A name to prove ownership of your data and digital assets. Because if you own anything in life, you should own your name. The internet has been changing the world for the past 50 years.
Now, it’s time for the world to change the internet.?
Unstoppable Domains
Your name
Your identity
You. Own it.
-Unstoppable Mantra

In true startup fashion, we moved fast after our initial conversations to bring me onboard. This month I became Unstoppable, joining the team to help define the future of Login and Identity for Web3. Of course, while learning, I bought a few unstoppable domain names and minted them on the blockchain.

So what's the difference between a regular .com domain and the Unstoppable Domains? It's more than just the new set of top level domains (TLD) like .crypto, .wallet, .nft, .x.

With an Unstoppable Domain you get

  • A universal wallet address
  • Password-less Login
  • Verified PFP - a profile picture or avatar that only you own
  • NFT Gallery
  • Lifetime ownership - you read that right! It's an NFT so it's yours to keep forever without any renewal fees
  • No Gas fees - mint for free on the Polygon blockchain
  • Future innovations - this is where I come in. Because the domains are NFTs, they will evolve over time to add additional value for their owners, like identity.

If Superman, Batman, or Wonder Woman had a domain name, they'd have an Unstoppable Domain name.

I'll be sharing my journey exploring Web3 and would love to hear yours. Use this link to save $10 and own your Web3 domain. You can find me on the decentralized web as lisaseacat.wallet. This article is also on Mirror.xyz.
