PART 3 - WHY ARE WE BESIEGED WITH SUPERHEROS? WHERE'S IT COMING FROM?
This interest of mine in superheroes is not just academic and transcends the cultural and literary evolution and the academic side of this equation- but, in my mind, morphs into its influence on the future of? humankind.
As for me, I was always curious who we were and where we were going? What was life all about and why, even as six year old, why was I so-concerned with metaphysical questions about the nature of God, why was there suffering in the world and what was, indeed, was life all about? Soon after, I veered off into a reading odyssey that evolved from fairy tales to science fiction to Western philosophy and Eastern spiritual classics- all the while, in my earlier years, continuing to immerse myself in comic books and later radio and TV series and finally full length features of science fiction and comic book heroes.
?Why did I still read comic books, when I was reading so many books, often literary classics and philosophy? Well, I think comics are an artform in themselves. But also, there could be psychological factors. In my younger years I was bullied a lot. And to somehow compensate for my real problem, I created my own superhero- and paraded around with a bathrobe tied around my neck as a cape. After months passed, my father called me into a room and told me that wandering around the neighborhood with a bathrobe tied like that was unacceptable. And he paid me $1.00 and took it away. That moment broke my small boy’s heart. I needed that identification to make life bearable. And I think- the fantasy identification with superheroes probably accounts a great deal for their popularity, especially among children, who I heard, often turn into adults.

But, somewhat like myself, only a bit, remember the costumed young men and women who discussed their vigilant tasks roaming the streets to protect and help people, as shown in Part 2 of this series? Besides, these often brave costumed citizens,- are there super heroes ?with real super powers really out there? Stan Lee, the great comic book creator, thought so. And here is a video announcing his forthcoming project about 12 years ago- regarding real superheroes.

In my last article, I spoke about Superman, often called the MAN OF STEEL (in fact, one of his movies was named that) after dozens of references in comic books. But here’s a man, Stan highlighted who was said to have FINGERS OF STEEL

We have now begun to demonstrate something of the widespread fascination with Superheroes- and as this theory unfolds, you will see how this fascination has some real correlates with reality. But do these correlations have anything to do with the further development of the human species.?
If you happened to look at my last two posts before this Superheroes series, the ones on the nature of inspiration, you would see how some create creators, like songwriters, Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan- admit that their musical creations seem to come from a place quite above their own solo individual talent.? Here is a recap of what Dylan said about his writing.

As a songwriter (yet undiscovered), I know exactly what it means. Earlier in my career, I was working on a book on spirituality (like that of George Harrison) and Rock and Roll. During this time, I had written only one song with a melody- during high school.
?
As I walked into a record shop one day, I began thinking I didn’t want to just write about this stuff, I wanted to be a singer. What happened next- and I don’t know how and why- was astounding- I suddenly received over the next hour or so- eight or more very complex songs with melodies and lyrics. It was shocking. Although I had received input in my writing- receiving melodies like that was shocking. I still have these songs- and this process confirmed to me- that inspiration can come from a place in a person that is far above their ordinary consciousness. So Bob Dylan- and Leonard Cohen- are probably just two? in many who realized that inspiration was coming from above (so to speak)
I think of several elements in popular culture- ?as in many different platforms- such as???????? art and science-, somehow- come from a special place beyond the human being’s own conscious mind. Similarly, as with the transition of early Rock and Roll to Psychedelic Rock to Rock explicitly discussing spiritual awareness (like All Things Must Pass), I think that other forms of popular culture can obtain such messages. This doesn’t necessarily mean these are always useful or benevolent messages- but yet sometimes I think they are- and sometimes this seems a way that the Power Beyond All Things uses art forms, including popular culture, to seed the human mind with transcendent ideas, even one that are seemingly prophetic or pertain to individual growth or consciousness enhancement.
