You don’t have to be a football fan to know that there is a big game this weekend. It is the KCC VS SF.? You don’t have to be a fan of either team to watch the game.? The excitement is built around the competition and which team is VS the other team.? Some people choose to watch the game because of the commercials and others for the half-time show.? To those who are just fans, we just want to watch a good game.? Ultimately, there has to be a winner, and when the time runs out in the fourth quarter, there will be a winner.? Merriam Webster defines the term or word “versus” to mean against, or in contrast to or as the alternative of.? One team VS another.? Versus is often shortened to two letters, VS.? Some may think of VS as either the victor or the loser.? Victory or defeat.? They can be against each other, however I would rather look at them in regards to in contrast to or as the alternative of.? I think we can learn more in our personal and professional lives from that definition.? Let’s take a look:
Victor???????????????????
Victor comes from the word Victory.? It means the actual individual or team that achieved success above the competition, or VS the other team or individual.? I would like you to take a deep look internally at what it means to be the “Victor.”? What does it mean to be the Victor to you?? Is it only because you or your team achieved a “win” and the other team lost?? As a leader or influencer of others, how do you define success or victory?? Is it personal gain or success?? A new job, or a new title?? Did a customer choose you and your company over another due to your sales pitch or proposal?? Does it mean taking on more responsibility and more compensation?? If you dig deeper, is success the same as victory, or are they different?? You may need to take some time to peel back the layers of that onion, however watch out, it may make you tear up and cry.? Ultimately, we set our own definition of success and victory.? Others can agree or disagree, however it is our own personal convictions and definitions that guide our hearts, minds, and actions.? Define what it means to be a Victor, even if it makes you cry.?
Surrender???????????
Have you ever watched a boxing match or a battle on TV and one team or individual raises a white flag?? Did you know that the earliest record of a white flag being used in battle is in the Roman empire in 109 AD?? Most people think of a white flag as an automatic surrender, however it is not always meant that way. It can also mean a cease fire or a means to have negotiations in a battle.? Surrender does not have to be a bad thing.? It can limit the impact to a group or organization, and it can also be a means to negotiate terms that are satisfactory to both groups when they are VS each other.? Is it bad to surrender?? It depends on what your actual terms and definition is of the word.? You can look at Victory or Surrender and one being bad, and the other being good, however they can both be bad and they can both be good.? Wait, what??? Sure!? Have you ever been given an opportunity (and you were chose over someone else), but yet you were not ready for it, or the opportunity went to your head? What about if I said that losing or surrendering, and you were able to regroup and refocus to learn and improve your abilities and perspective to springboard you forward for your next opportunity.? Surrender now allows you to regroup and achieve success later!
Regardless of how you define it, you can relate to it in one fashion or another.? Being the Victor VS Surrendering.? Luckily, you get to determine if it is going to define you or drive you to being at your best.? ??Life is funny, and at times it makes us laugh and other times it makes us cry.? Understand that if you are the Victor, understand that ultimately it means success.? Which level of success is up to you. You may be on the opposite of a victory and have the need to concede or surrender.? That does not necessarily mean that you lost, however it does mean you get to battle again one day.? Learn from both and share what you learn.? You will be a better person for it!? Game on and share what you can so others can redefine what success means.? It is not you VS them, it is US!
Stay safe and stay well!
