What are the 3 most common mistakes with dirty data?

1?? Typos and spellings mistakes create so many versions of the same thing, and creates companies that don't actually exist. It is so messy and time consuming.

2?? After that, missing information is very prevalent and causes confusion. This could be missing address information, so you can't post to them.

3?? Then formatting, this is important when working globally - take dates for example 09/08, is it 9th August or 8th September?!

TCG QUICK TIPS-?NORMALISATION

Normalisation can be a pain in the backside at the best of times. Add in some ambiguity and a bit of assumption and you have some dirty data in the making right there.

Here's some tips on how to normalise and minimise errors:

?? Make use of other data for context - location, description etc.. anything that can guide you

?? Never assume you know what a supplier/company does, always double check the information. See above ??

?? Always create a new column for normalised suppliers so you can refer back to the original

?? ...Even better, work on the normalisation in a new tab or separately

?? Be careful with those search and replaces, use the previous steps

?? Use a RowID for extra protection if you need to merge your data back in
