Super Powers or Super Skills
Katrina Crandell, MBA

I recently was watching a television show called "Bones". In the early seasons, when the characters were first starting to get to know one another, they talked about their inherent skills like they were super powers. I have been thinking a lot about this concept. What if our skills or special talents are our "Super Powers?" Wouldn't we think of ourselves on a whole different level? Wouldn't we be more passionate about ourselves as individuals and about our friend's special skill sets too. I believe that acknowledging each others' Super Powers would make collaborations and business partnerships easier and more fun because you are acknowledging each others' gifts and talents.
On that note, I have been asking myself since I first watching "Bones" what would be my Super Powers?
- Coordinating Anything -- I began cultivating this skill as an Administrative Professional years ago. Lately, I have tweaked it by serving my www.meetup.com group Fun In The Gump, Geek Breakfast Montgomery, and River Region Bloggers. Getting people to come together to do anything is difficult but I am a planner and I love to plan so this has always come naturally to me.
- Connecting People -- I think that this gift is inherent and in my genes. My father, grandfather and siblings all have this ability to make connections and make people want to be a part of whatever they are doing. We inspire friends, co-workers and people we come in contact with to do more and be more. There is a more deeply ingrained story here but it's too lengthy to tell.
- Planning or Project Management -- Planning takes skill too and it falls in line with coordinating. However, planning or project management takes time and skill. To me, I can organize things in my head often faster than I can put the ideas to paper. I can see the vision of a project long before it has come to fruition. Planning also means putting all the details into place to make the project come together in the end.
I feel this list best describes what I have come to lately view as my Super Powers or Super Skills. I want you to ask yourself: "What are my Super Powers?". I bet you can name quite a few now.
